Action Space is Recruiting a Pastoral Care Worker

Action Space is London’s leading visual arts organisation for people with learning disabilities. Launched in the 1960’s, we provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to discover and develop their creative talents and work to raise the profile of artists with learning disabilities. We run specialist visual arts Studio Projects where artist participants have access to studio facilities and high quality art materials and equipment, with guidance and support from an experienced artist facilitator. There are also opportunities for them to exhibit and sell artwork through our dynamic programme of exhibitions and events.

Action Space works with people of all ages (16+) and cultural backgrounds; and with people with all types and levels of learning disability, from mild to profound and also those with complex needs. We are currently running eight projects, working with around 65 artist participants per week.The Pastoral Care Worker will be responsible for facilitating access to our various projects and activities for anyone who would benefit from participation, particularly people with profound learning disabilities (PLD) and complex needs.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years experience of working with adults with learning disabilities, particularly those with PLD, complex needs and challenging behaviour. They will have a comprehensive working knowledge of the issues and public policy around learning disability and be committed to working in an anti-discriminatory way, with a positive view of people with learning disabilities. They will enjoy working as part of a team but also be able to work independently, managing their own workload.

This is a newly created post and the successful applicant will be able to make their own.
