The Leighton Project's visit to see David Hockney at the RA

Image:

The students from the Leighton Project had a colour filled day at the Royal Academy this week. The students got to vote for what David Hockney paintings they wanted to view and talk about. Then they looked at and talked about some of Hockney's large colourful paintings of California and Yorkshire in the Royal Academy Galleries. After lunch they worked in groups on two large scale paintings using rollers, brushes on sticks and spray pumps which took up the length of the whole project space. A fun day was had by all and thanks to the RA for giving us access.

The start of the year at the Leighton Project has been going well. This week students were doing drawings for the Big Draw event at Kentish Town Health Centre. The theme this year was around 'young' and 'old' and some great drawings were produced of young and old animals.
Previous weeks students have been creating drawings with string and then using them for printing with some great results.

A Forest Dragon by George

The dragon in George’s story defeats the monster in order to save the children from being eaten.

Today George has been creating a forest home for his dragon. He did this using textured paper for the forest floor that has been painted with different shades of green and brown. He used different materials including cups and old scrunched up newspaper to make trees and bushes.
George made the dragon and monster using paper mache.

What wonderful artwork

Congratulations to all of you. Your artwork is amazing and I love the blog. Please keep going!
