The London 2012 Open Weekend was the second in a series of annual UK-wide celebrations leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Action Space provided two fully integrated visual arts masterclasses, in association with Cockpit Arts and funded by NADFAS. Both catered for a mixed group of up to 12 people with learning disabilities and members of the general public.
Potter Liz Emtage and Action Space's artist tutor Abigail Hirsch lead a one-day pottery workshop, on Friday 24th July, as part of Action Space's programme. The group had the opportunity to learn how to hand-build ceramic vessels and try throwing a pot on the wheel.
On the following Sunday Wayne Charmer and Abigail Hirsch ran a glass fusing workshop, where participants learned techniques for fusing glass with various materials.
During the sessions the participants enjoyed experimenting with the materials, working together and produced some exciting work.
