Solo Spaces

Solo Spaces

A series of one day art happenings at the South London studio
David Byrne - 12 July 2011 / Connie Moth-Price - 19 July 2011

Over the forthcoming months the Wandsworth Studio Artists will take it in turn to create a series of installations within our second studio space at Studio Voltaire. The artists will show site specific and installation work for one day, including film, painting, photography, and sculpture. These informal shows are a wonderful opportunity to visit the studio and meet the artists.

Ian Hiscutt was the first artist to present work in the new ‘Solo Spaces’ series on Friday, 8 April. Over a period of two years, Ian had developed a series of film pieces exploring movement. Across a range of subject matter, he created films of a mesmerising quality. His use of saturated colour and reflective materials in these moving paintings resulted in spectacular effects, like aerial images of an alien landscape. Ian’s walks around Clapham Common also featured. With a camera attached to his walking frame, Ian recorded the journey at his pace and his choice of a low angle provided an alternative viewpoint. Ian brought his films together for an art happening entitled ‘Movement is freedom going somewhere.’ Through manipulating his projections he created an installation expressing a truly personal insight.
