Participants from the first Action Space/Attend Mentoring Training Programme receive accreditation from the National Open College Network

The nine participants from Action Space and Attend's first Mentoring Skills Training Programme were awarded National Open College Network (OCN) accreditation for their work on the course.

Accreditation Certificate were presented by Baroness Emerton DBE during a reception hosted by Attend at their offices in the King's Fund, London.

Launched in February 2008, the Mentoring Skills Training Course aims to equip artists with learning disabilities with the personal and professional skills and confidence to act as Artist Mentors in visual arts workshops. The course has been jointly developed by Action Space and Attend, the UK's leading membership based organisation supporting volunteering in health and social care.

Artist Tutor Lisa Brown commented...
"The course really gave the group confidence in their own skills and abilities, and also taught them new skills which they are able to use in the studio and also their everyday lives. Learning to be good mentors has widened the participants' outlook and given them an effective means of engaging with others. Since the end of the course I have continued to work with some of the participants in our weekly studio projects and have really felt that the confidence the mentor trainees have gained continually shines through."
