The Wates Studio Project
Action Space received new funding from the Wates foundation, to run a 3 year studio project at the Croydon Clocktower. This project runs twice a week, for Croydon participants.
The group took part in the Xposure Festival in November 2006. They created a fantastic installation 'Shining Brightly,' which was in the foyer of the Croydon Clocktower. The installation ran alongside the Tate Modern exhibition in Space C Gallery at Croydon Clocktower. There was coverage of this exhibition in local and disability press.
This was a very successful installation and it was transferred to Camden Library in March 2007, for the VisAbility Festival (please see events page).
The Wates Studio artists willl also be exhibiting in OurSpace, an exhibition at the new University College London Hospital Street Gallery in June 2007.
The group also had a wonderful exhibition 'The Garden,' in Space C Gallery at Croydon Clocktower in January 2006. This was the outcome of their Local Heritage project. The focus of the work was on Queens Gardens, which is very close to the Clocktower.
The group interviewed the local community, including police officers and the homeless. They had the opportunity to use a range of equipment, such as digital projectors and lap tops.
