Camden Outreach Project

Camden Outreach Project

Camden Outreach is an innovative pilot project, launched in partnership with Camden Learning Disability Services in November 2010.

The Outreach Project targets some of the most isolated and vulnerable people in Camden. It draws on the benefits of participation in the arts for increasing wellbeing and transforming lives.

Action Space artist facilitators Patricia Finnegan and Fiona Wootton worked with six of CLDS most vulnerable service users, all of whom had complex needs and had become isolated in their homes. Tricia and Fiona visited each person on a weekly basis over a period of six months. They engaged them in visual art activities and slowly built up their self-confidence in order to encourage them to attend activities outside of their home. The pilot project was extremely successful. Three of the participants are now coming to Cockpit Arts for 1:1 sessions and are working towards joining one of our studio projects within the next few months. The Camden Outreach Project is funded by the Emmanuel Vincent Harris Trust.

Work created by the six Camden Outreach Project participants was exhibited in the exhibition Camden Roundabout at Cockpit Arts from 11-15 April.
